ABOUT THE ARTIST

Through large-scale assemblage filled with rusted metal and weathered wood, Montréal-born artist Paul T. Curran explores ideas of perspective, growth, and connection to ourselves, each other, and the planet on which we live. Now based in Los Angeles, Curran juxtaposes long-abandoned everyday objects — from saw blades to car doors — against serene nature imagery, drawing inspiration from a lifetime of fabrication and the details hidden in his surroundings to create pieces that inspire and challenge his audience’s assumptions.

In a distinctive style that echoes both postmodern bricolage like Arte Povera and the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi, Curran’s work wends its way between thoughtful meditation and powerful statement as he grapples with what it means to live a good life on a warming world, finding wonder in seeming contradictions that belie a fundamental unity buried beneath the surface.
