Green Valley

Returning to similar themes as he explores in “East to West (Unknown Destination)” and its companion piece “West to East (Unknown Destination)” (not displayed), Curran’s “Green Valley” is a celebration of life and the magic of finding one’s place where one least expects. The VW Beetle doors once belonged to has long represented a specific sort of freedom: liberation from convention, a community of strangers who treat each other like family, the promise of a better future and the open road ahead. Countless hands have opened doors like these, climbing inside with loved ones and friends not yet made, adventure calling out from just beyond the bend. By the time the car was found by the artist, sitting alone in the desert valley from which the piece gets its name, that adventure had long passed…yet the spirit of it remained alive, a vision of the perfect sky it once chased etched on its surface, as though waiting for a new community to inspire and call forth towards the blue.
